Ski and Skate Fridays

For more than thirty years at the International School of Berne (ISBerne), we have had a special Winter tradition that we call 'Ski and Skate Fridays'. Over seven weeks during ski season, students in all grades participate every Friday in winter sports. Ski and Skate Fridays are a vital part of our school's curriculum and culture. Therefore, we expect all students to participate, and most cannot wait for the chance to go!

Here is how Ski and Skate Fridays happens for different grades at our school:

Early Learning Centre - Grade 1

Our younger students take the tram each week the ice rink at Wislepark in the nearby village of Worb. They enjoy ice skating lessons, where they work on their stability, control, strength, and endurance.

Grades 2 - 12

Our school charters a train to the village Zweisimmen in the world-famous Gstaad ski region. Students spend the day learning from certified, professional instructors and ISBerne teachers are there to offer extra supervision and care. From total beginners to have never seen snow to young black diamond athletes, each student will enjoy their time outdoors by either skiing or snowboarding. Outdoor Education Camps

With a location at the heart of Switzerland, the International School of Berne takes full advantage of the world-famous natural landmarks that surround us. At the beginning of each school year, we take students in Grades 3 - 12 on outdoor educational trips.
