Kindergarten: From Age 4

A warm and welcoming two-year programme in English and German

At the International School of Berne (ISBerne), our Kindergarten programme welcomes children aged 4 to 6 into an engaging and supportive learning environment. Children learn in English and German through a rich, play-based approach that respects each child’s unique learning style and encourages curiosity, creativity, and discovery. A strong focus on social and emotional development helps every child feel a sense of belonging and develop a lasting love of learning.

ISBerne is a fully accredited and authorised private day school in Gümligen, Switzerland. Since 1961, we have supported families through our inclusive community and globally recognised educational programmes.

Our Kindergarten programme at ISBerne offers:

  • Two-year structure (Kindergarten 1 and 2) from age 4
  • Early Learning Centre available from age 3
  • Dual learning in English and German
  • International Baccalaureate® (IB) and Lehrplan 21 curriculum
  • Year-round enrolment for local and international families

A Meaningful Start to Learning

At ISBerne, our two-year Kindergarten programme is designed to meet children where they are, offering the right balance of structure, support, and challenge during these important early years and preparing them for a smooth transition to Primary School.

Children benefit from personalised instruction and a dual language approach in English and German. Flexible schedules and full-day care help support both your child’s development and your family’s daily routine.

As an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School, our learning approach encourages children to ask questions, explore ideas, and develop independence from an early age.

Kindergarten 1: From Age 4

A Gentle Start to Structured Learning

Kindergarten 1 welcomes both children continuing from our Early Learning Centre and those beginning their learning journey with us for the first time.

The programme provides flexible attendance options and a supportive setting where children gradually build confidence, independence, and positive learning habits. Through exploration, guided activities, and play, children begin developing early literacy, numeracy, and social skills while becoming comfortable with classroom routines.

Kindergarten 2: From Age 5

Two Teachers. One Classroom. Dual Learning in English and German.

Beginning in August 2026, Kindergarten 2 will introduce a new dual learning model in English and German. In this programme, children learn with two teachers in one classroom who guide learning in both languages throughout the day.
