Dual Language Summer Camp Bern 2026German learning, English-speaking activities, and summer fun at ISBerne

Founded in 1961, the International School of Berne (ISBerne) is an English-speaking international day school in Gümligen near Bern, welcoming both local Swiss and international families.

This summer, ISBerne is introducing a new Dual Language Summer Camp for children aged 8–12. The programme combines structured German instruction in the morning with shared afternoon activities alongside participants in our Kickstart English Summer Camp.

The camp is designed for children who would benefit from additional opportunities to develop their language skills in both German and English. Through classroom learning, projects, games, outdoor activities, and everyday communication, children strengthen their confidence using both languages in meaningful situations.

For many children, summer provides valuable time to maintain and further develop language skills outside the regular school year. At the same time, summer should be fun. The Dual Language Summer Camp combines engaging language learning with outdoor play, creative projects, team activities, and new experiences, helping children stay active, curious, and connected throughout the summer break.

What Makes ISBerne Special

• English-language education for students aged 3–18 since 1961
• New German–English pathway aligned with Lehrplan 21
• International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School — the only one in our region
• Inquiry-based learning that encourages curiosity, independence, and prepares students for the future
• Inclusive and welcoming school community where every student is known and supported

Programme Highlights

  • German lessons each morning that build confidence in speaking and understanding the language
  • Sports, games, and creative activities in English each afternoon
  • A full-day programme including lunch and snacks
  • Small learning groups with experienced teachers
  • Open to all students from any school in the Bern region

How Campers Spend Their Day

Mornings are devoted to structured German lessons in small groups, ensuring that each student learns at an appropriate pace and gains confidence in speaking and understanding German.

In the afternoons, students practise their English through enjoyable, hands-on activities outside the classroom. Campers take part in arts and crafts, sports, and games, such as tie-dye T-shirts, painting projects, and team-sport challenges in our gym or on our outdoor fields — all guided by our staff and conducted in English to support natural language development.

On the Wednesday of each camp week, students participate in a supervised excursion to a local attraction, such as an adventure park, climbing centre, bowling alley, or escape room. These outings offer a safe and enjoyable way for students to practise English while building confidence, teamwork, and independence.
