After School English Classes

The Kickstart English Programme at the International School of Berne aims to build the English language fluency and confidence of children aged 5 to 15. Conducted through weekly, in-person classes, students interact with qualified English language instructors experienced in teaching children English as a foreign language. This unique programme is only open to students enrolled in the local public school system and not currently attending our school.

Our Class Offerings

English 1: Ages 5 -7

An engaging class for younger students that includes phonics, rhymes, songs, games, show-and-tell, simple writing exercises, stories, easy readers, Oxford Reading Tree up to stage 6.

Wednesdays from 14.50-16.20
Wednesdays from 16.30-18.00

Costs

Fees are charged per semester.
The course fee per semester is CHF 500 for 18 classes.
After a free trial class, students commit to the remainder of the semester.

English 2 : Ages 8 – 12

Building upon English 1, this programme for older children includes different types of text (factual and narrative), writing exercises, lateral thinking puzzles, phonics, library books, Oxford Reading Tree up to stage 15.

Wednesdays from 16.30-18.00

English 3: Ages 12 – 16

Are you ambitious? Would you like to take your English to the next level? This course is designed to inspire and engage motivated students to progress in English.

This intensive English Class is for students in Middle School (ages 12 – 16) who are studying English as a second language as part of the local school curriculum. The course focuses on preparation for the Cambridge exams.

We offer:

Engaging language classes based on current high-interest themes.
18 sessions of an hour and a half per semester.
Extensive library facilities for reading at home.

Wednesdays from 18:30 – 20:00

Costs

Fees are charged per semester.
The course fee per semester is CHF 850, plus a materials and administrative cost of CHF 120 (billed separately).
After a free trial class, students commit to the remainder of the semester.

English Immersion Week: Starting at Level B1

Students who are enrolled in one of our English classes, may qualify to participate in an English Immersion Week at the International School of Berne. Students who attain a B1 level of English and display readiness and interest may be recommended by our English teacher to participate. For a week, students will attend our school as an ISBerne student, participating in classes with their English-speaking peers, with special sessions for extra English instruction.
