After School English Classes

The International School of Berne (ISBerne) offers after school classes to children who want to learn English in a positive and supportive environment. Our classes on Wednesday afternoons are designed for children ages 5 to 12 who want to build confidence, improve their English skills, and enjoy learning in a small-group setting. Each course provides age-appropriate instruction focused on speaking, listening, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
 

Our school is the leading private school with instruction in English in Bern, Switzerland . We have proudly been part of your local community since 1961 and offer a fully accredited international education for 275 students aged 3 to 18.

Who can join?

Our classes are designed for children who want to build or strengthen their English language skills, including:
 
  • All students who do not attend our school
  • Children aged 5 to 12
  • Beginners with little or no English experience
  • Children with some English skills who want extra practice

Class Levels and Schedules

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ English 1 for ages 5 - 7

An interactive learning experience designed for young learners who are just beginning their English journey. Through phonics, rhymes, songs, games, show-and-tell, and storytelling, students build foundational speaking, listening, and early reading skills in a playful, confidence-boosting environment.
 
Children will also engage in simple writing activities and begin reading with the Oxford Reading Tree (up to Stage 6), helping them take their first steps toward independent reading in English.
 

Day and Times

  • Wednesdays from 14.50-16.20

  • Wednesdays from 16.30-18.00

Costs

  • Fees are charged per semester. 

  • The course fee per semester is CHF 500 for 18 classes.

  • After a free trial class, students commit to the remainder of the semester.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ English 2 for ages 8 -12

Designed for children with some prior exposure to English, this course builds on the foundations established in English 1. Students will explore a variety of text types, including factual and narrative writing, while developing their reading comprehension, writing fluency, and vocabulary.

Lessons include writing exercises, phonics review, lateral thinking puzzles, and guided reading using Oxford Reading Tree books up to Stage 15. Students also have access to a rich selection of library books to encourage reading for pleasure and continued growth in English.

  • Wednesdays from 14.50-16.20

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ English Immersion Week

Students who are enrolled in one of our English classes, may qualify to participate in an English Immersion Week at our school.

For a week, students will attend our school as an ISBerne student, participating in classes with their English-speaking peers, with special sessions for extra English instruction. 

Students who attain a B1 level of English and display readiness and interest may be recommended by our English teacher to participate.

Learn English at Summer Camp
