The International School of Berne welcomes applications from students who have demonstrated academic and social skills, a sound character, reliability, and an eagerness to learn. New students are accepted for admission unless there is a reason to believe that this would not be in the best interest of the applicant or the school. Upon enrolment, we will charge an application fee of CHF 250 to cover administration costs.
Admission to the International School of Berne is based upon:
- the potential of the applicant to benefit from the educational services provided
- the capacity of the school to meet the educational needs of the applicant.
- To evaluate a student’s application, we ask for various documents and request a personal interview with all prospective students. In addition, applicants in Grade 6 – 10 will be asked to take placement tests in English and Mathematics.
Final decisions on admissions require the approval of the Director.
Joining the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12
Due to the structure of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, it is preferable that students join at the start of Grade 11. Previous attendance at another IB school is not required.
Students wanting to join Grade 12 must be transferring from another IB school and need to demonstrate reasonable compatibility between courses undertaken at their previous school, and the ISBerne programme. Students wanting to join Grade 12 must meet with our Diploma Programme Coordinator.
For more than thirty years, 'Ski and Skate Fridays' have been a special tradition at the International School of Berne. Over seven weeks during the Winter, students in all grades participate in skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating.
