Students

A welcoming and connected community where students are supported, inspired, and prepared for what comes next

At the International School of Berne (ISBerne), students become part of a close-knit and internationally minded school community.

New students are supported from their first day. A Student Ambassador or Class Buddy helps them settle in, while teachers provide guidance to ensure a smooth transition into the classroom. Our school counsellor is also available to offer additional support when needed.

This reflects our approach as a school: we welcome and connect, support each student’s development, and help them build the confidence to take their next steps.

How many students attend ISBerne?

ISBerne has approximately 248 students across all year levels. Small class sizes across all grades allow students to be well supported and known by their teachers.

Where do ISBerne families live?

ISBerne families live in Bern and across the surrounding communities and cantons, with many students commuting to our campus in Gümligen.

Popular areas include Bern, Gümligen, Muri bei Bern, Rüfenacht, and Worb, offering a balance of city access, green surroundings, and convenient transport connections.

Families also join us from across the wider region, including neighbouring cantons, with good public transport making the school easily accessible.

This flexibility allows families to choose the location that best suits their lifestyle, while students remain part of a connected and welcoming school community.

How long do students stay at ISBerne?

ISBerne brings together families who are new to the region as well as those who have been part of our community for many years.

  • 106 students have joined within the past year
  • 38 students have been at the school for 2 years
  • 23 students have been with us for 3–4 years
  • 23 students have been part of our community for 5 years or more

This reflects the international nature of our school. Many families join ISBerne for a few years during their time in Switzerland, while others choose to stay longer and continue their journey with us.

Families typically stay in Bern for around 3–4 years, and ISBerne is experienced in supporting smooth transitions both into and out of the school.

Data valid as of September 2023.
