Parents

The International School of Berne (ISBerne) serves as a "home away from home" for most of our families. As a result, our parent community is a crucial component of our school's heart and culture. ISBerne has an active Parent-Teacher Committee (PTC), which dedicates itself to ensuring that every member of our community feels welcomed and has the opportunity to get involved and join the fun!

Our school offers meaningful ways in which you can make a positive difference to your child's school education. We also provide parents with learning opportunities to help them understand and participate in their child's education in a meaningful and informed way.

Parent-Teacher Committee

The Parent-Teacher Committee (PTC) runs annual community events and regular activities such as coffee meet-ups, fitness groups, and day trips. From the Lunch Bunch to Bingo Night, you can feel the pulse of the PTC that underlies all of our community events. In addition, the PTC holds a monthly meeting to discuss and coordinate events and activities from the regular events listed below to supporting new activity ideas and initiatives.

The primary goal of the PTC is to support school spirit and enhance our families’ overall experience at ISBerne. They organize numerous events for children and adults – allowing everyone to make new friends and enjoy a great social life.

Activities for Parents

Each school year, the Parent-Teacher Committee (PTC) organizes a variety of social events and group activities. Here are some of the most popular activities you may find on the school calendar:

PTC Meetings

Once enrolled, we invite you to attend the PTC meetings, held on the first Wednesday morning of each month during the school year. Find out what is going on with our active parent community and how to participate!

Walking Group

Led by one of our long-term parents, this group meets once a week for a ‘touristic’ power walk around Bern with the objective of both fitness and exploring the local area.

Pilates Class

This class is run by an ISBerne parent who is also a certified Pilates instructor. This class is held off-campus at the nearby Mattenhof and has a nominal fee.

Lunch Bunch

The PTC organizes this monthly luncheon in order to explore the culinary options in the area.

Book Club

Each month a different member opens their home to the group where the current book is discussed, and a future book is chosen.

Coffee Socials

Once a month a social coffee hour is held in the Aula on campus. This is a great time to casually get to know other parents without the commitment to an activity.

Elementary Library Volunteer Group

This group assists in staffing the Library desk before and after school, checking books in and out, re-shelving reading materials, and light book repair. The time commitment for volunteers can be as little as two half-hour sessions per month, after an initial morning of training with our School Librarian.

Supporting Families in Transition

We understand that relocating your family to Switzerland, changing schools, settling into a new home can be both exciting and challenging for parents and children alike. We work with each new ISBerne family in a highly personalized way to provide a warm welcome, with plenty of support to help you and your family to find your feet. This includes help and advice with the practicalities of transition as well as supporting you with the social side of settling in. If you have any questions about moving to ISBerne, please contact our Admissions team.
