Explore ISBerne at an Open Morning

See how our future-focused programmes can help your child build skills that last a lifetime.

Choosing the right school is one of the most meaningful decisions a family can make. At the International School of Berne (ISBerne), we see education as a journey built on relationships — where every child is encouraged to grow, connect, and discover their unique potential.

Located in Gümligen near Bern, ISBerne is a private, day school for children aged 3 to 18. Since 1961, we have provided a caring, international environment and high-quality education that prepares students for success in Switzerland and around the world. We offer the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Programmes — an internationally recognised framework that promotes inquiry, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding from Early Learning through Grade 12. The IB helps students develop both the academic foundation and personal skills they need to thrive at university and beyond.

Starting in 2026, ISBerne will also introduce the Lehrplan 21 pathway, taught in German and English, to our Primary School. Based on the Swiss national curriculum, this programme blends the strengths of Swiss education with ISBerne’s international setting, small class sizes, and student-centred approach — an excellent option for local families seeking a modern, globally aware education.

Together, these pathways reflect our commitment to providing education for life — helping each student build confidence, discover their strengths, and prepare for the future with purpose and care.

Upcoming Events

We warmly invite you and your family to join us at various group events on our campus throughout the school year. These events offer a wonderful opportunity for local and international families to experience our vibrant community firsthand. Educators from other schools and business partners interested in learning more about our programmes are also encouraged to attend.

At ISBerne, children grow from curious early learners to confident graduates - all within one caring, international community. From ages 3 through 18, students experience an education built on strong relationships, academic challenge, and the skills needed for the future.

Why Choose ISBerne?

At ISBerne, we combine the best of international and Swiss education in a close-knit, caring community. Every student is known, supported, and challenged to grow — academically, socially, and personally.

  • International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School
ISBerne offers the full continuum of International Baccalaureate® Programmes for ages 3 to 18 — the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, and the Diploma Programme. The IB develops curious, independent learners who can think critically, act with integrity, and succeed at universities worldwide.

  • NEW! Lehrplan 21 Pathway in Primary School – German and English
Our new Lehrplan 21 pathway follows the Swiss national curriculum while integrating ISBerne’s inquiry-based approach. Taught in both German and English, this programme provides local families with a modern, flexible, and internationally oriented education in a familiar Swiss framework.

  • English-Based, Multilingual Learning Environment
English is the language of instruction across all IB programmes, and students benefit from language learning in German or French, with additional support for multilingual learners.

  • Small School, Strong Relationships
At our intentionally small, private school, our teachers know each student as an individual — creating a community where children feel valued, confident, and ready to learn.

  • Future-Focused Education
From inquiry-driven learning in the Early Years to university and career guidance in the Diploma Programme, ISBerne prepares students not only for exams but for life — with the curiosity, adaptability, and empathy to thrive in a changing world.

  • Welcoming Swiss and International Families
ISBerne is authorised to enrol both Swiss and international students, with flexible entry points and year-round admissions. Our pathways include the Grade 10 Bridging Year, Bilingual Diploma options, and programmes for non-compulsory Swiss age groups.
