The International School of Berne (ISBerne) is a fully accredited, International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School providing education for students aged 3 to 18 in Switzerland’s capital. Since 1961, our private, day school has had a long-standing reputation for innovative and highly qualified teachers, world-class facilities, a diverse community, and excellent academic results.
Our preschool programme fosters in each child a love of learning and sense of self through a play-based curriculum.
Our rich programme offers unique learning experiences to acquire knowledge, build skills and develop character.
At this time of rapid intellectual and personal change, our students strengthen their independent learning skills and pursue their interests.
We offer multiple academic pathways to meet the wide range of High School students' needs, talents, interests, and goals.
Students at our school or local schools who want to improve their English can benefit from our English programme.
Each summer, our school hosts the 'Kickstart English!' day camps for local children ages 7-15.
Our school's relationship with the US Embassy started in 1961, when the then US Ambassador to Switzerland, Robert M. McKinley, helped create a small day school for diplomatic families called the English Speaking School of Berne.
Grade 12 students were celebrated a special community event in early June.
Our school has a whole-community approach for preparing our students to think critically and use technology responsibly to learn, create, and participate.
Students are using the forest environment as an outdoor classroom- a space where they can use their senses to smell, listen and feel to connect with their surroundings while learning.
During the pandemic, our teachers fostered the emotional resilience necessary for ISBerne students to achieve their best.
'Ski and Skate Fridays' have been a special tradition at the International School of Berne for more than thirty years. Over seven weeks during the Winter, students in all grades participate in skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating.
