Grade 8 Village Camps

The five day camp provided many different experiences and helped us to become a more united class. The activities we undertook promoted teamwork and co-operation.

When rock climbing each member of the team had a specific task: the climber relied on the belayer and second belayer for their safety and welcomed the advice from the fourth member as to where to reach for the next hand or foothold. A student commented, "It was very helpful to have a good, supportive team to back you up while climbing because it can be nerve wracking being up on the rock alone with no help."

At the end of the first day hike we had to construct tarpaulin shelters for us to sleep in overnight. By the morning we appreciated why the counsellors has advised us to seek a good level site between two trees. Some of us woke up to find we were underneath at least one of our "shelter mates".

Village Camps was an incredible experience which provided many opportunities for learning new skills in an enjoyable way with knowledgeable, well trained counsellors working with us.

Another student wrote, "Our counsellors were so friendly and fun. They were kind and knew exactly what to do if there was an emergency. They were also very enthusiastic and energetic."
