G6 Outdoor Education

Grade 6 Village camps programme of activities Sep.-Oct. 2009


Monday

After travelling to Leysin by train, the Grade 6 programme at Village Camps included the following:
Arrival, introductions, explanations of e-team etc. and lunch
Trust building and problem solving games played near the centre
Dinner, clean-up, e-team, room inspection by the ‘King and queen of clean' and a night -hike

Tuesday

Breakfast and students prepared their packed lunches
Living with nature involved problem solving, shelter building etc.
Earthworks provide a review of how the Earth is formed (a combination of physical geography and earth science)
Dinner, clean-up, e-team, room inspection by the ‘King and queen of clean' and the eco-mystery (a problem solving mystery ‘who dunnit' with regard to climate change and why the glaciers are melting!

Wednesday

Breakfast and students prepared their packed lunches
Rock climbing on limestone
Where are we? An activity involving maps, map-skills and use of directional compasses
Dinner clean-up, e-team, room inspection by the ‘King and queen of clean' and the eco-casino (the students play various games to win money and then decided on the best way to spend their winnings on making their school more environmentally ‘friendly)

Thursday

Breakfast and students prepared their packed lunches
Students embarked on a day long hike up the summit of a nearby peak at about 1900 metres from Leysin at just over 1300metres (aspects of the glaciated landscape were discussed during the hike and various game type activities played during the hike)
Dinner, clean-up, e-team, room inspection by the ‘King and queen of clean' and the campfire where students and staff performed ‘skits'

Friday

Breakfast and students prepared their packed lunches
Village camps challenge involved a review of the week and building a package to keep a raw egg intact when dropped.
Certificates and tidiest room award.
Return to Berne by train
