End of unit assessment – Adventure games

'What does it take to maintain an Empire?' 'What makes an Empire fall?'

The two 7th grade MYP humanities classes have been working on a unit on the Roman Empire. Their final assessment involved putting together an adventure game, either as a PowerPoint, board game or book, where the “player” had to make a variety of decisions that would result in the empire either being maintained or falling. The students got together once their games were finished and had a chance to play each other’s games, peer assess them and learn more about the factors that are necessary to maintain a successful empire and the factors that might cause a mighty empire such as Rome to fall.
