The PTC, ISBerne’s active and indispensable support network.

The mission of the PTC is to: • Facilitate unity between the parents and the school community… • Support the educational environment through open communication and a close relationship between home and school… • Organise activities to enhance the community and culture… • Support the overall school mission… The PTC achieves these missions through a variety of activities and services organised and administered by the group. A few of their major events include International Day, Bingo Night and Quiz Night. The group also organises a host of other family-oriented events, such as parent coffees, hikes, school projects, new parent orientations etc., all sponsored by the PTC! PTC members also volunteer to assist in the library or classrooms as well as organise book fairs and other school events. They work and aid the school and community in many different capacities. PTC Country Coordinators are volunteers who welcome and assist new families from their home country by communicating in their shared language. PTC meetings are held once a month and are open to all parents. You may also be interested in joining the Friends of ISBerne (FOISB). This is a subgroup of the PTC which encourages involvement with, and membership of people in the Berne and Gumligen communities be they Swiss, or fellow expatriates. Read below for a list of their current ongoing activities, or click here to see the News Feed of upcoming events! Elementary Library Volunteer Group

The elementary library looks better than ever thanks to our librarian,  Jill Van Niekerk and the Elementary Library Volunteer Group. This group, formed in April 2010 and chaired by Usha Alvin, staffs the elementary library desk before and after school. Library volunteers check books in and out, re-shelf reading materials,  and do light book repair. They have also proposed some great ideas to improve our library and get students involved, such as running a ‘Bring Back the Books’ competition to retrieve overdue books. The time commitment for volunteers can be as little as two sessions (1/2 an hour each) per month, after an initial morning of training with the school librarian.
