ISBerne remains the only accredited international school in Berne!

ISBerne is Re-Accredited

ISBerne remains Berne’s only accredited international school.

We underwent our regular international accreditation process through a joint visit by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and the International Baccalaureate for all three progrmmaes (IB). I am very pleased to share with you the fact that ISBerne has received full, unconditional re-accreditation.

The letter from the accrediting authorities reads, in part:

“In reaching its decision, CIS took into account the Visiting Team’s commendations which were based on evidence of sound and effective alignment with the majority of standards for CIS accreditation. In granting the award of re-accreditation, CIS felt that the commendations – or strengths of the school – far outweighed any areas in which the school was deficient. Of particular note were the finalisation of plans that will enable the construction of new school building, the strong commitment to the PYP, MYP and IB Diploma and the strong sense of partnership that existed between and across all school constituencies.”

Accreditation, by its very nature, is a process of self-improvement that is validated by external organizations. In effect, we ask: “What can we do better?” The consequence of this is a list of ‘things to do”. It is important that we put this into context – all institutions can improve, and there is always a list of ‘things to do.’ Our list was clearly identified in our self study, and in almost all cases the Visiting Team validated these. Our next step is to address our list in an organized fashion through the creation of an Action Plan. In two years time this Action Plan is sent to the accrediting authorities, enabling them to judge the progress made towards addressing the issues identified.

The full CIS Accreditation Report and the accompanying Action Plan that will detail our progress in addressing school improvement will be made available to the parent community in a few weeks.

A sincere thank you to all those who led the various sections, and to all of you who participated so willingly in the process. A special thanks to Eric Mueller for chairing the Self-Study.

Congratulations to all on a job well done!
