Recent Football Tournaments
Over the weekend of November 1 – 3, the Bears Under 14 Boys Football Team competed in a twelve-team tournament at La Chataigneraie International School in Founex. On Saturday, the boys got off to a very good start, scoring eleven goals in their first three matches, all of which they won comfortably. Losses in the last two group matches meant that they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semifinals. Despite the disappointment, the boys came back the next day and won their first match in an exciting penalty shootout. In the end, the team finished in sixth place, quite an achievement considering that many of the boys were competing against older, and at times, much bigger players. Still, they gave their best, and although they did not come away with any medals, they were able to return to Berne with a winning record (4 wins, 3 losses) for the weekend. Finally, special thanks goes to Emilio de Thomas for accompanying the team over the entire weekend and assisting the coaching staff during the tournament.
This past weekend, we also had four teams competing in SGIS tournaments. The category A boys and girls football teams played in Locarno hosted by TASIS. The boys placed ninth but finished in superb style, winning their final game versus AIGLON in golden goal penalty kicks. Photo below displays the competitiveness and emotion of winning the final match of the tournament. The category A girls finished in seventh place. They did receive one of the most distinct honors; they were voted Best Sportsmanship Team of the tournament. It is a great honor and displays the character of our girls football program.Return to Sports
