International Day: 12 June, 2010
ISBerne hosted its annual International Day celebrating the school's cultural diversity and welcoming hundreds of visitors from the community to our Gümligen campus. The weather was perfect as guests wandered from stall to stall tasting foods from 16 different country stalls while enjoying the day's entertainment, including games and a bouncy castle for the children. The culminating event was the raffle of over 75 wonderful prizes. ISBerne is grateful to our very generous sponsors, entertainers, participating stalls, and the numerous volunteers who dedicated many hours in preparation for the day and made the event of the year a huge success!!
Bern and Its Bears Tour: 20 May, 2010
The Friends of ISBerne were treated to the "Bern and Its Bears" Tour by the Bern Tourism Office. Twenty "Friends" walked around Bern learning the history of this beautiful medieval city and some little known facts as well.
Everyone especially enjoyed the detailed explanation of the many parts of the Zytglogge (pictured right) and came away with a better appreciation of our city's wonderful landmark.
Naturally, the group finished the tour with a lunch at the Tram Depot by the new Barengraben.

Musical Theater Basel
Mamma Mia, here we go again!
Friends of ISBerne travelled to Basel to enjoy the highly entertaining English version of the hit musical, MAMMA MIA! The FOISB attendees (moms and daughters) dancing at the end of the show was proof enough that other similar events are a must for next year's schedule.
Pool & Spa Outing to Bernaqua Westside: 1 April, 2010
The Friends of ISBerne made a splash at Bernaqua Westside as half a dozen families joined us on our first water park outing. The moms relaxed in the numerous jacuzzis while the teens and younger children enjoyed the thrills of the water slides.
The official Friends of ISBerne Most Popular Ride was the Motion Ride and the unanimous feedback was "Let's do it again!" ... so we will!!
A special thank you goes to Bernaqua - Erlebnisbad & Spa for giving us a special price of 15 CHF per person for the day.
Monthly Social: 31 March, 2010
About 20 people gathered at the Mattenhof Restaurant in Gümligen for the ISBerne Social held on Wednesday, 31st March. We enjoyed coffee, Ostern Kuchen, conversation, and even had a chance to greet a new family planning to attend ISBerne in August.
Many thanks to the Mattenhof Restaurant for providing the complementary coffee for our group.

Quiz Night! 26 March, 2010
Over 120 people forming 21 teams filled the ISBerne gymnasium for a fun night of “around the world” trivia. The airline-themed event hosted people from all over the international community including teams from the Universal Postal Union, eBay, Nestlé, the British Embassy, the American Embassy, parents and staff from ISBerne, and other local businesses. With each round, the competition for first place was shared by a number of different teams, but in the end, the team calling themselves the Pea Brains (a group from the British Embassy) became the Quiz Night champions. Ski Day 7: 19 March, 2010
Staff and parents celebrated another successful ski season on the last ISberne ski day this year with a 70's/80's Ski Day and Lunch/Fondue at Zweisimmen's Restaurant Gobeli. They really got their "groove" on with outfits from decades gone by and enjoyed a wonderful lunch on the terrace at Middlestation. Photos from Ski Day 7...
Family Skating: Winter 09/10
During the winter season, Friends of ISBerne met on Wednesday evenings at the KA-WE-DE ice rink for ice skating, socialising and terrific fondue!
Theatre Outing: 1 March, 2010
Stadttheater, Bern
Friends of ISBerne took advantage of the opportunity to see an English-speaking professional theatre production in downtown Bern with TNT theatre Britain's presentation of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.
Some 17 of us met up at the Stadttheater for an enjoyable evening of gothic fiction brought to life.

"The Best Team Wins": 22 February, 2010
Larry Huras, head coach of Bern's professional hockey team SCB graciously offered his time and immense energy to present the key ingredients needed to form a successful team, whether in sport, business, school or other walks of life. He engaged the whole audience as he discussed his ideas and life experiences with great creativity and fun. It was a truly inspiring speech; we all left the room with lots of food for thought and ready to take action.

Wine Bar 'La Passion du Vin'
It was wonderful to see so many new faces at our first wine social in downtown Bern. Some 30 of us enjoyed a relaxed evening of Chilean wine tasting and no shortage of conversation. We will certainly plan a few more evening events for this group, so keep checking this space! More photos...
Basel Christmas Market: 14 December, 2009
Friends of ISBerne took a trip to Basel for Switzerland's largest and most traditional Christmas market. We enjoyed a fun day of festive shopping and gluwein of course!

Fun Planet Outing: 23 November, 2009
22 students and 8 parents from The International School of Berne, The British School and the Kirchenfeld Gymnasium enjoyed an afternoon of fun activity and socializing at Fun Planet in Villeneuve. Dressed in dark colors, we all got a good workout playing tag!
It was wonderful to see so many people at our first outing. Thank you to all the participants for a great kick start to our activities.
